Would You Accept Lag in Real Life?

There are few things more frustrating these days than the lag we experience online. Just imagine if that latency extended beyond our screens and into our real lives.

There are few things more frustrating these days than the lag we experience when trying to access certain sites. Between net neutrality issues, latency in mobile networks, and sites delivering too much info than our data plans allow, the average internet user is growing less and less patient of lag time.

But it could be worse.

Just imagine if that latency extended beyond our screens and into our real lives. Well, Swedish broadband provider Ume.net set out to find out just what that would look like with the aid of the virtual reality headset, Oculus Rift. With users wearing the goggles programmed to experience a three second lag between real life and their perceived view, the results were predictably hilarious.

And as they ask at the end, “If we wouldn’t accept lag offline, why should we have to do accept it online?”
