It really came down to the service itself and what it was providing us. We can run simultaneous tests with Catchpoint from different agents all over the world, which gives us a real comparison of what website performance looks like with and without Cloudinary and the optimizations that we can provide.

Problem

The following is based on an interview with Gary Ballabio, vice President of technology partnerships for Cloudinary. It has been edited for clarity.

My name is Gary Ballabio, and I'm the vice President of technology partnerships for Cloudinary. Media is such an important component of websites today and mobile applications today. We do all we can to provide all the rich media formats that online brands want to use today on their website and make it easy for them tod eliver that to their end users in an optimal way. A lot of companies don't realize that 70 percent of the weight of a page is from the images and the videos on the page. So if you can optimize that content on the page, you can really drive and enhance experience in terms of page response times and page load times, for really any user all over the world.

However, we weren't really utilizing any tools or didn't have any real mechanisms to measure and quantify the performance improvement that we were providing to those websites.

Solution

One of the first decisions that we made when I joined the company was to go out and find a partner that could provide objective data that quantified the performance improvement websites get from Cloudinary.  We ultimately decided to work with Catchpoint.

It really came down to the service itself and what it was providing us. We can run simultaneous tests with Catchpoint from different agents all over the world, which gives us  a real comparison of what website performance looks like with and without Cloudinary and the optimizations that we can provide.

Catchpoint also provides out-of-the-box reports that allow us to show our value really quickly and really easily. There are a lot of sophisticated ways that we can  look at the data and be able to diagnose what the differences are, what sorts of improvements we as a service can provide, or even just to help identify where we need to add additional value, or where we can add additional value for our customers.

Results

The ability to combine the data with  visual reports really helps end users understand. For example, they can visually identify one part of China where they need the most help. Or maybe its Eastern Europe where they are seeing really slow load times. And that helps them understand where a company like Cloudinary could really help them

Catchpoint's been great to work with. I have to say, the company provides a solid service.
